The AKITA® JET inhalation system

The AKITA® JET inhalation system, combined with the latest jet nebulizer from PARI, provides optimal electronically-controlled inhalation of medication using Activaero's FAVORITE technology. The result sets the following standards:

  • Exceptional efficiency for a jet nebulizer [more]
  • Better lung dose reproducibility [more]

  • Precise "Drug Targeting" [more]

The AKITA JET inhalation system (HA-Projekt-Nr.: 144/08-06) has been supported by the state of Hess and their innovation promotion program, financed by LOEWE - Landes-Offensive zur Entwicklung Wissenschaftlich-ökonomischer Exzellenz, Förderlinie 3: KMU-Verbundvorhaben.

AKITA® JET - Exceptional efficiency for a jet nebulizer

Compared to conventional inhalation systems, AKITA® JET allows for a significantly higher drug deposition in the lungs even with average dosing. This creates two possibilities:

    • Equivalent dosing can achieve a higher drug deposition in the lungs and a reduction of approximately 50% in drug investment.
    • Targeted dosing therapy can achieve a lung dose of three to five times higher than normal as compared to Dry Powder Inhalers (DPIs) and conventional nebulizers.

AKITA® JET deposits around 75% of the dose measured at the mouthpiece into the lungs. These results can be seen in a number of in-vitro and in-vivo studies using Fluticasone.

These data indicates an excellent drug use efficiency, as well as a low throat deposition - this means, a high pulmonary dosage can be achieved without increasing the potential for side effects.

AKITA® JET - Better lung dose reproducibility

AKITA® JET has several advantages, particularly for drugs with a narrow therapeutic window and a high risk of side effects, e.g. antibiotics. The inhaled lung dosage can be easily reproduced with low variability. Data from a clinical study using Tobramycin shows that AKITA® JET has significant potential in saving even the most expensive medications.

AKITA® JET - Precise "Drug Targeting"

For the very first time, precise pulmonary "Drug Targeting" is now possible for inhalation therapy in combination with AKITA® JET - depending on the drug and therapeutic goal, the location of drug deposition can easily be defined and adjusted.

"Drug Targeting" to pre-defined regions in the lungs via controlled regulation of aerosolized drugs and air boluses.

The AKITA® JET inhalation system fulfils the exact requirements needed in order to deliver the maximum amount of drug aerosol to the lower airways. Flow and volume-controlled inhalation with clearly defined drug patterns ("Drug Targeting") shows a clear superiority in peripheral alveolar deposition compared to conventional nebulizers and DPIs.
